Am I eligible to vote?

You must be 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen and a resident of Ontario. And you need to be on Elections Ontario’s voters list.

How do I know if I’m on the voters list?

Elections Ontario maintains a permanent voters list. If you are on it, you will receive a voter information card in the mail between May 12 and 20. (Bring this card when you vote, plus ID.) If you don’t receive a card, you can add or update your information to the list by May 23 and still get a card. You can do this at elections.on.ca/en/voting-in-ontario/voter-registration.html.

Uh oh, didn’t get a card and forgot to update the list. What now?

You can still vote. You just need to add your name to the voters list on the day you vote. To do that, bring a piece of ID that shows your name and residential address. Photo ID is not required, and you do not need to provide information about your sex or gender. You will also be asked to sign a declaration.

How will I know where to vote?

This information will be on your voter card. You can also enter your postal code on the Elections Ontario website and hit enter to find out what riding you live in. The website will tell you where you can vote on election day or in advance. You can also download the Elections Ontario app for the information.

How do I find out who is running?

Once you enter your postal code on the Elections Ontario website, you can click to a page that lists the candidates in your riding.

What’s this about an Elections Ontario app?

Elections Ontario has launched a free mobile app for voter information that can be downloaded at the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. You can use it to determine if you’re registered to vote, get a scannable version of your voter information card, see who is running in your riding, and find your nearest polling station. The app will also tell you when you can vote, and can send notifications.

What if I want to vote by mail?

To register to vote by mail, you can apply online or by mail. The deadline to apply to vote by mail is 6 p.m. on May 27. Elections Ontario must receive your completed voting kit by 6 p.m. on June 2 for your vote to be counted. Once your application is accepted, Elections Ontario will mail you a ballot at the address you provide on your application.

Can I vote if I live outside of Ontario?

If you are a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older and temporarily residing outside of Ontario, you can cast a ballot as an absentee voter. You are eligible as an absentee voter for up to two years from the date you left Ontario. Additionally, you must have been a resident of Ontario for at least 12 months before leaving the province and you must be intent on coming back to the province. You can register as an absentee voter online at Elections Ontario website.

What if I can’t vote on June 2?

This year, the number of advance voting days has doubled from five to 10. Advance polls will be open in all 124 ridings from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., May 19 through May 28.

When will the results come out?

Polls close at 9 p.m.
