Niagara Falls employers expect a flat hiring climate for the third quarter of 2021, according to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey.

“Survey data reveals that 11 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter, while four per cent anticipate cutbacks,” said Britannie Tawse of Manpower’s Stoney Creek office.

Another 78 per cent of Niagara Falls employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter, according to the survey, while the remaining seven per cent of employers are unsure of their hiring intentions.

Employers in Welland and Port Colborne also expect a mild hiring climate in the coming months.

Survey data reveals that seven per cent of employers in Welland and Port Colborne plan to hire for the upcoming quarter, while none anticipate cutbacks. The remaining 93 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels.

Employers in St. Catharines are predicting a reserved hiring climate.

“Survey data reveals that four per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter, while four per cent anticipate cutbacks,” Tawse said.

Another 89 per cent of employers in the St. Catharines area plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter, while the remaining three per cent are unsure of their hiring intentions.

Meanwhile, a disappointing hiring climate is anticipated for Fort Erie.

Survey data reveals only five per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter, while 14 per cent anticipate cutbacks. Another 76 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter.

The Canada-wide picture appears a bit brighter, according to the international hiring agency, with many industry sectors expecting to add to their payrolls in the upcoming quarter. The survey of over 1,500 employers across Canada revealed that 17 per cent of employers plan to increase their staffing levels in the second quarter of 2021. Employers in the public administration sector report the strongest job prospects.

“Widespread vaccination and settling of the pandemic may well be contributing to an increase in employers planning to return to workplace-based working for the third quarter of 2021,” said Darlene Minatel, country manager of ManpowerGroup Canada.

Meanwhile, 26 per cent of employers surveyed do not expect to go back to pre-pandemic levels of hiring. Eleven per cent expect to hire at the same level or higher than before COVID-19 within the next three months.
